Updated: Wed, Dec 30 2015, 10:44 AM SAN ANTONIO – The Kitchen Cops found out a local Mexican food restaurant got flagged by the health department and an Italian food restaurant received a perfect score. Inspectors gave Taqueria Perla Tapatia at 5102 Rittiman Road on the Northeast Side 44 demerits, a failing score. Among the violations, the inspector found: -- food kept at unsafe temperatures -- raw meats stored above ready to eat foods, a contamination hazard -- employees not washing their hands properly -- employees handling food with their bare hands improperly -- raw shrimp being thawed in a dirty prep sink -- garbage bags being used to store raw tortilla dough balls Blue Plate Aware for Lorenzo’s Italian Restaurant This week's Blue Plate Award goes to Lorenzo's Italian Restaurant, which is located at 8032 Fredericksburg Road on the Northwest Side. They have been serving San Antonio classic Italian food since 1966, from lasagna to spaghetti and meatballs. It’s a fun, family setting that will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.
