This is one of San Antonio Texas old restaurants and a must go to for all visitors. That being said I have lived in San Antonio Texas for over 20 years and just this year went to visit The Pig Stand.
All my readers know by now I LOVE 1950-1960's stylized diners. Our pig stand is a lovely style 1950's diner and is just filled with pigs in every direction, in every size and shape!
My fiancee did not realize I had never been here and took me one day for a date! It was a blast.
The wait staff is amazing and very friendly.

When you first walk in you see the cool looking restroom doors the ATM, the check out, and the great checkerboard floor!
Seat yourself and get ready for fun.

My fiancee. We are sitting in the first booth because we loved the look of the brick wall and wanted a booth for the record player!

This is a lovely "record player" CD player for the restaurant. We wanted to play "rocket man", I guess you can say it is "our song". It is just an inside joke because of a movie we were watching, and a discussion of rockets, 1960's, space travel, aliens, and who sang rocket man, and something about David Bowie and the Changes record....Inside joke as I said LOL.
Well this is where things get funny.
I kept looking at the thing and noticing that the same Song played over and over, then another similar song. The singer was from San Antonio and had Pig Stand in it. My fiancee and I began one of our off topic deep conversations about records, CD's, music, rockabilly, and what the heck was wrong with out player!
It appeared to be working, it let us choose the songs. I had to reeducate my honey on how the fan-dangled thing worked. We checked volume, we conversed and concluded that it was piped overhead.
Our waitress kindly walked over and said. "how much did you put in?" I said "oh just enough for a couple of songs". She said. "There is a fella in here who comes in every morning and puts in $20.00. He plays the same songs every day! So If you want to hear anything other than that you have to get her earlier than him or later, unless you like that kind of music." We all had a good chuckle and she offered to give us our jukebox money back. We said no, not to worry, the next people will just have to listen to our music and we hope they like it! LOL

You may choose to sit at the "bar" in the diner if you like. We noticed a lot of locals like to sit at the bar so that they can talk to the wait staff and each other, while refilling coffee!

This is the outside of The Pig Stand. It still looks like a car hop. The car hop stalls are to the right I cannot find pics and did not take any unfortunately. I will take some for you all next time I go.
Another thing I did not get pics of are the amazing and clever menus! They have Hollywood stars and Legends from 1950's etc. on the pages and they look so vintage or retro! I definitely will take pics the next time for you.

This was another one of our great debates. I swore that this pig building sat in the Pig Stand parking lot years ago before it shut down, (before it re opened). My fiancee was convinced that it did not. I found this pic and others proving that I WAS RIGHT! Although this little guy no longer is in the parking lot and is now located at Franks Hog Stand. I have not gone there yet as it is mostly for bikers and I do not have a motorbike. LOL

Ok I know what you are thinking...Where is the pic of the food? I was so hungry and the food looked so good, I was eating before I remembered to take a pic!
They serve your food on an actual diner plate and sides in diner bowls. They have rolled silverware, and serve you like you would have been served in a diner in the 50's.
The salad was AMAZING! We had chicken fried steak, it was good, not the best I have ever had, but by no means NOT the worst. The sides were divine! I took a pic of the fried mushrooms here. They were delicious!!
The prices were comparable to diners around the city, average, not too pricey. The restaurant is family friendly, clean, and not too loud. Anyone in any price budget may be able to find something here to eat.
They do serve Coca-Cola products so that is a plus for me! Their tea and coffee is great as well.
Check out their website for historical information and fun facts!
