Black & Decker Lean Green Prep Machine SL1050
My Mother's Day gift this year was a lovely Prep Machine!!! This is not your conventional "food processor" nor is it a "Salad Shooter" nor is it a smoothie machine.
I feel that the pics on the box are a bit deceiving, however, this product receives an A+ in my grade-book!
I have read most of the other reviews online about this machine, there were not a lot of them and most were not good reviews. This machine was originally $50.00 at walmart but my sweeties got it for mommy on clearance! Score for the family!
I have used it on Carrots, Cucumbers, Lettuce, Tomatoes, strawberries, Bananas, Hershey's liquid Chocolate, and Icecream.
This is what I have learned:
The machine is Easy to use!
Clean up is Easy!
Changing Parts is Easy! The only issue is that you must take care in changing the blades as to not break off the top pieces or your fingernails.
It is trial and error with the blades, however if you follow the instruction guide that came with the machine...it will make your life easier.
Pink blade: is for coarse shredding such as thicker slices of carrots for salads or cooking.
pic from google images
Red blade: is for fine shredding such as thin slices of carrots for paper thin shreds, ie. toppings carrot salad etc.
Blue blade: is for thick slicing such as for carrot pieces, and cucumbers.
Aqua blade: is for thin slicing, that gives you paper thin slices of cucumbers.
I found that the machine does not like mushy veggies, such as lettuce, it just goes to mush, also tomatoes, not so much!
UPDATE: Use the largest long slotted blade for lettuce, and cucumbers and you will have no problem. No tomatoes still though.
On the fruit and smoothy side:
FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! Make sure your items have thawed 10 minutes no less, not much more.
The fruit must be a bit solid but not mushy.
I placed a scoop of Vanilla Bean ice cream in the shoot then a banana and inserted the plunger. Push down slowly yet a bit firmly NOT hard! Turn off machine then I added a scoop of ice cream then 2 strawberries. Turn on machine and plunge down.
You have a lovely Ice Cream strawberry banana desert.
Make sure your ice cream is firm and not soft. If your ice cream is too soft you will have a milk shake!
I have purchased yogurt and wish to try mixing berries for a very fresh and no preservatives treat!
I love this little machine. My family loves salads, and I can prep the veggies for a full week of salads. Yes it takes a bit of time, but it is pretty and fun! With arthritis in my hands I cannot shred by hand so this is amazing!
It is a great machine for a beginner and it takes up little room on the counter-top. This is not a food processor or salad shooter. Please take care when using as it can be dangerous if little hands find their way into the blade area! Follow directions in the handbook. Clean after every use and dry before putting it away. This is not for use with professionals!
Enjoy!
