Quick 5 minute cake balls

Kids love decorating these cute little cake balls!

These are quick and easy and the whole family can make them from age 2 - 200!

I always keep cake in the freezer. Mostly tips I have cut off of cakes, cupcakes that came out too small or broken etc.

I put the cake parts in the food processor until they are crumbs.  Then freeze them.  I have kept cake crumbles for up to 2 months in the freezer either in a freezer proof container or zip bag.

Ok so here we go... Take out your bag of crumbs and let them thaw for about 15 min.  You can watch your show, read another one of my blog posts, so some house work, paint your nails. Etc.

You can leave them longer if you like they just need to be room temp.

Now in a mixing bowl add enough icing to make your cake not crumbly and not overly wet. They should feel kinda like peanut butter balls if you've made those before. If not we'll they are solid but squishy and will on your hands easily without sticking to you making a huge mess.

OK now use a spring loaded ice cream scooper (I know I say this in all my baking posts! But if you don't have one it is something that a baker really needs in their arsenal)  If you don't have one you can use a tablespoon measuring spoon that has a rounded cavity.

Scoop you out an even scoop by scraping the scooper across the side of the bowl, plop the ball in your hand, mold it like clay dough, then roll it into a ball and place it on a parchment paper or wax paper lined dish.

Once all your cake balls are rolled simply sprinkle Powdered or Icing sugar on all your cake balls.

Then if you like you can drizzle chocolate, or candy coating on top of that.
(For how to melt candy coating please see my other blog post's on cake pops or melting chocolate candy coating I will post links at a later time so it is a bit easier to find.)

Put the cake balls in the refrigerator and viola in 15 minutes they are ready to eat.  My family likes them cold, but if you like you can keep them room temperature but not near a stove, window, or dishwasher, because it gets too hot and any coating will melt.

The kids love to make these!

Happy Cake Balling!
